Meet Marie
Marie Cartier is a recipient of the Emerging Writers Award for the Literary Women Conference 2022. She was awarded the 2021 Drury Award in Fiction for her story “Beyond Desire: Working it Out,” and an Honorable Mention in the Women Hold Up Half the Sky portion of the 2021 Roswell Award for her fantasy/sci-fi story “Yes.” Her fiction received a Certificate of Recognition from the City of West Hollywood in 2021. She has recently published poetry in SAGA, Sinister Wisdom, and short fiction on QueerWise, among many others. She currently studies fiction in the Creative Writing Program at Long Beach City College (LBCC).
She holds three MFAs: Art (Claremont Graduate University), Film, and Theater (UCLA). In her past lives she has run an award-winning theater company, produced plays, including three one-woman shows, created full-scale art installations, published plays and written screenplays..
She has a Ph.D. in Religion from Claremont Graduate University and is the author of the critically acclaimed book Baby, You Are My Religion: Women, Gay Bars, and Theology Before Stonewall (Routledge 2013). She is a senior lecturer in Gender and Women’s Studies and Queer Studies at California State University Northridge, and is a perma-blogger for the site Feminism and Religion. She lives with her family in Southern California.

Synopsis
Blue
The teen mermaid Tic-Toc has been sent on a mission to save Blue, the ocean world she loves, from Green, the world she hates. In the process, she must meet Julie, a rebellious human teen living on Green, the land that is killing Blue, and convince her to accept her mermaid lineage. Julie doesn’t yet know she may be one of the last living Green mermaids and the only person that can truly save both Green and Blue. The big problem is Julie hates the ocean, doesn’t swim, and would do anything to move back to Los Angeles from the small coastal town her Mom moved them to. The other big problem is most of Blue’s beings would like to kill Julie, before Tic-Toc can convince her of anything.
